The winner is…

A perfect performance on the sixth and final day of the 2023 Scottish Six Days Trial saw Jitsie rider Dougie Lampkin lift the famous SSDT winner’s trophy for a record extending fourteenth time. Forty-seven-year-old Lampkin was at his best when it mattered most, soaking up the pressure like he has done so many times in the past. Dougie remained faultless through Saturday’s closing thirty sections and eventually won with a two point margin over his closest rival Billy Green.

Twenty-nine years after he won his first SSDT back in 1994, Dougie has reconfirmed himself as the King of the Scottish with his latest triumph in the highlands and adds to his winning performances in 1994, 1995 and 1996 before Lampkin then took time away from the event to concentrate on the World Championship. It was a winning return for Dougie in 2008 and the year after in 2009 too, ahead of his most dominant period when he won seven times in a row from 2012 through to 2018 inclusive.

Lampkin’s closest challenger going into the last day Billy Green had to eventually settle for second position as he dropped two marks on Saturday. Last year’s runner-up Michael Brown stayed clean on day six and snatched up third place ahead of Jack Peace and Tom Minta who rounded out this year’s top five.

Monday – 1st May

The 2023 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) got underway in dry weather, but with conditions quite slippery in the sections early on at places like Schoolhouse and Upper Mamore. The big novelty for the 2023 edition is that the routes have been completely revamped, stepping away from the usual first sections at Coire na Cloiche and Leanachan that have been the opening groups on Monday for many years.

2022 SSDT winner Dougie Lampkin had an excellent first day, finishing with just a single mark lost. He’ll set off on Tuesday morning with the much desired yellow leaderboard mounted on his Vertigo’s Jitsie ADRF front fork. Biggest surprise on day one is Germany’s Franzi Kadlec who finished on just three points, taking the lead in the best newcomer class and third place overall.
