2022 European Trial Championship – Round 3 – Scarlett Point, Castletown – Isle of Man 07 August

Jitsie rider Pau Martinez grabbed his first win of the 2022 Trial European Championship when the young Spanish rider came out on top of a tight and tense three-way battle for the victory at the third round of the series held on the Isle of Man last weekend. The small island off the UK mainland, which is more traditionally associated with high-speed racing with its famous annual TT races, provided the perfect sea front setting for the latest battle of the skill and balance of trial. Just two marks separated the top three riders with Pau dropping just seven marks to beat runner up Marco Memphor from Austria by a single mark, with home favourite Harry Hemingway only one further mark back on nine completing the podium on the day. Norway’s Jarand-Matias Vold Gunvaldsen and Jonathan Heidel from Germany rounded out the top five respectively in what was a hotly contested event.

Martinez, who was the 2020 FIM Trial125 World Champion, has now moved into second place in the current Euro championship standings heading into this weekend’s penultimate round in Scotland, with the final and deciding event set to take place in Italy next month. The Jitsie rider will be looking for two strong results to close out his campaign, as he goes all out to add the European title to his previous World gold medal.
